What started as a small operation with a Jeep and a trailer has grown into the most recognized brand for luxury outdoor living in Kansas City. Through relentless dedication, craftsmanship, and innovation, Robyn has built a company that not only creates breathtaking outdoor spaces but also transforms lives—both for clients and the team she leads.
A published author and recognized industry educator, Robyn is passionate about elevating the green industry through knowledge and innovation. She teaches both university students and seasoned professionals, sharing insights on best practices, cutting-edge construction methods, and the art of crafting spaces that inspire connection. Under her leadership, High Prairie Outdoors & Pools has become a beacon of excellence, where overachievers never settle for mediocrity and continuously push the boundaries of design, craftsmanship, and efficiency.
A Kansas native, Robyn holds a degree in Horticulture from Kansas State University. She attributes much of her work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit to her humble beginnings, where hard work and resilience were the foundation of her journey. Outside of her professional pursuits, Robyn cherishes time with her husband, Bret, and their daughter, Ellie, born in 2021. Balancing her passion for business with her love for family, she is dedicated to building a legacy that extends beyond landscapes—one that transforms lives and creates lasting connections.

Owner / Director of Team and Tech Development
Bret Schmitz is a co-owner of High Prairie Outdoors & Pools, bringing a unique combination of financial expertise, construction knowledge, and operational leadership to the company. As a Certified Public Accountant, certified pool builder, and licensed general contractor, Bret understands the business through both its financial systems and the hands-on work behind creating exceptional outdoor environments. His experience spans landscape construction, pool building, and multiple related trades, giving him a well-rounded perspective on the people, processes, and craftsmanship that support High Prairie's continued growth.
After serving as Director of Operations, Bret transitioned to his new role in Spring 2026, allowing him to dedicate more attention to team development, technology, and organizational growth. As Director of Team and Tech Development, he focuses on helping High Prairie Pros develop their skills while providing the systems and resources they need to succeed. Together with Robyn, Bret developed a semi-custom operating system that supports accounting, client relationships, project management, and administrative operations. He also guides the integration of emerging technologies and automation to strengthen the team's capabilities. Bret continues to oversee the company's financial operations while supporting the transition of those responsibilities to the Controller.
Outside of High Prairie, Bret enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife, Robyn, and their adventurous daughter, Ellie. Together, they enjoy exploring, staying active, and experiencing the connection that comes with spending time outside. For Bret, these moments reflect the same quality of life and meaningful outdoor experiences that High Prairie strives to create for every client.

Zach Mueller serves as Director of Operations at High Prairie Outdoors & Pools, bringing extensive experience in production management, operational systems, automation, and team leadership. Before joining High Prairie in 2026, Zach built his career with ConAgra Mills, Kerry Ingredients, and PepsiCo Frito-Lay, where he spent 15 years leading packaging and processing operations, warehouse teams, systems implementation, and automation initiatives. His background in managing teams and improving complex operations provides a valuable perspective as High Prairie continues strengthening the systems that support its people and projects.
Zach is passionate about developing people and creating processes that make their work more effective and rewarding. He focuses on building strong teams, improving operational efficiency, and introducing practical systems that help High Prairie Pros deliver consistent quality and exceptional client experiences. His approach emphasizes clear communication, employee involvement, and giving team members the tools they need to succeed. Zach believes that meaningful outdoor environments provide spaces where families and friends can gather, recharge, and build lasting connections.
A graduate of Kansas State University, Zach holds a bachelor's degree in Milling Science and Management. Outside of work, he enjoys attending concerts and taking on DIY projects, bringing the same curiosity and hands-on mindset to his personal interests that he brings to his leadership at High Prairie.

Dylan Buessing serves as Controller at High Prairie Outdoors & Pools, bringing financial expertise and a passion for helping the team make informed business decisions. His interest in accounting began in high school, leading him to pursue bachelor's degrees in Accounting and Finance, followed by a Master of Accounting from Kansas State University. A licensed Certified Public Accountant, Dylan began his professional career as a Tax Consultant before joining High Prairie in 2023.
As Controller, Dylan focuses on providing accurate financial information, meaningful business metrics, and the financial support that helps High Prairie Pros succeed in their roles. He enjoys turning complex numbers into practical insights that strengthen operations and support the company's continued growth. Although much of his work happens behind the scenes, Dylan takes pride in contributing to the thoughtful design, skilled construction, and continued care that create outdoor environments families can enjoy for years.
Outside of High Prairie, Dylan enjoys spending time with his wife, their two children, and their Goldendoodle. He values staying active and enjoys cheering on his favorite Kansas City sports teams, including the Chiefs, Royals, and Sporting KC.

Nicole DeHaven serves as Organizational & Team Empowerment Lead at High Prairie Outdoors & Pools, bringing a diverse background in human resources, program development, administration, and organizational support. Since joining High Prairie in 2024, Nicole has combined her professional experience with a genuine passion for helping people grow and creating a positive workplace experience. Her background allows her to support the people and processes that contribute to High Prairie's strong team culture and continued success.
Nicole takes pride in supporting the growth and professional development of the High Prairie team. She enjoys the variety of her responsibilities and the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the daily experiences of her colleagues. She joined High Prairie in March 2014 with 15 years of professional experience and a degree in Horticulture from Kansas State University. Her combination of organizational expertise, attention to detail, and appreciation for the natural environment makes her a valuable part of the team supporting High Prairie's daily operations and client experience.
In her role, Paula supports the Accounting and Administrative teams while helping create a welcoming, organized, and professional experience for clients and colleagues. She takes pride in working alongside a team of driven, persistent professionals who share a passion for growth and excellence. Her dedication to supporting the people around her reflects the collaborative culture and high standards that define High Prairie Outdoors & Pools.
Outside of work, family and faith are central to Paula's life. She enjoys spending time with her husband, Dillen, their son, Jase, and their two Labrador Retrievers, Rip and Macee. An active member of her church community, Paula values opportunities to grow in her faith. She also enjoys cheering on her husband and son at sporting events, visiting family in the Oklahoma Panhandle, watching Oklahoma University football and softball, and staying active at the gym.

Morgan joined High Prairie in 2024, drawn to the company's reputation for craftsmanship and commitment to meaningful outdoor experiences.
Morgan believes exceptional outdoor design begins with understanding what brings people joy and how they want to experience their surroundings. She is especially passionate about the thoughtful layers and details that make landscapes resilient, adaptable, and personal. Her approach considers how outdoor environments can reflect a family's values, interests, and everyday experiences while creating opportunities for connection and lasting memories. Morgan views her work as a creative calling, taking pride in helping homeowners shape spaces that feel like a natural extension of their lives.
Outside of High Prairie, Morgan enjoys spending time with her husband and their energetic young son. Their family loves exploring Kansas City's parks, often discovering a different destination each weekend. A licensed landscape architect in Missouri, Taylor holds a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture, a secondary major in Environmental Studies, and a minor in Horticulture from Iowa State University. Before joining High Prairie in summer 2026, she spent nine years working in commercial landscape architecture, managing projects through conceptual design, construction administration, and completion. Her experience includes parks, public plazas, streetscapes, entertainment districts, multifamily housing, senior living communities, medical facilities, and sports complexes.
Taylor combines analytical thinking, creativity, and collaboration to solve design challenges and deliver thoughtful outdoor environments. Throughout her career, she has managed design teams, client relationships, project budgets, and schedules while participating in public engagement events and collaborative design workshops. At High Prairie, she brings that experience to projects that require careful planning, communication, and attention to detail. Taylor is passionate about creating outdoor spaces that engage the senses, inspire reflection, encourage personal growth, and provide meaningful places for people to connect and build memories.
Outside of work, Taylor enjoys spending time with family and friends, exploring the outdoors, and volunteering in her community. After attending Cloud County Community College and Kansas State University, Aaron officially joined the company in 2015 and has grown alongside the organization as its projects have expanded in size and complexity. He is a Certified ICPI Patio Installer, Certified SRW Retaining Wall Installer, and licensed Class C General Contractor.
As Senior Project Manager, Aaron helps guide clients through the construction experience, serving as a consistent point of contact throughout their projects. His responsibilities include coordinating project details, managing changes, handling permitting, and supporting the teams responsible for bringing each outdoor environment to life. With experience spanning landscape installation, maintenance, and equipment operation, Aaron understands the practical details behind successful construction. He takes particular pride in High Prairie's growth and the opportunities it has created for team members to develop their skills, take on new challenges, and transform clients' properties.
Outside of work, Aaron enjoys spending time with family, fishing, and cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals. Darren plays an important role in guiding pool construction projects through the details that bring a design to life. His work spans initial layout, construction, plumbing, and equipment installation, with careful attention to the quality and performance of each completed environment. He takes pride in seeing detailed plans and renderings become finished outdoor spaces that homeowners can enjoy. Darren also values the camaraderie within High Prairie's Pool Division, appreciating the way team members support one another, share knowledge, and continue developing their skills through hands-on experience.

His passion for landscaping began around age ten when he discovered a landscaping book at a garage sale, sparking an interest that would shape his career. David went on to earn a bachelor's degree in Horticulture with an emphasis in landscape design and installation from Iowa State University. Before joining High Prairie in 2013, he gained experience working in nurseries, garden centers, irrigation, landscape installation, maintenance, and management. His professional credentials include Certified Irrigation Technician, Weathermatic Certified Technician, backflow device testing certification, and certified pesticide applicator licenses in Kansas and Missouri.
As Production Manager oversees installation and maintenance operations across pools, irrigation, lighting, turf treatments, holiday lighting, and outdoor living. He is passionate about developing High Prairie Pros, strengthening operational systems, and helping team members discover their potential. David takes particular pride in guiding outdoor environments through every stage of their development, from the initial homeowner vision through construction and continued care. With a deep appreciation for horticulture and thoughtful landscape design, he enjoys watching properties mature over five, ten, and more years, becoming increasingly beautiful and meaningful to the families who enjoy them.
Outside of High Prairie, David treasures spending time with his wife and their three children, whom he considers among his greatest accomplishments. He enjoys cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs and finding peaceful places where he can relax and recharge. Bruce began his relationship with High Prairie as the company's inaugural intern while attending college, demonstrating a strong work ethic and a passion for learning that led to his continued involvement with the team.
As Client Relationship Manager, Bruce combines his horticultural knowledge with a genuine interest in helping people create outdoor environments they can enjoy for years to come. She takes pride in producing work that stands apart in the Kansas City market, approaching each project as an opportunity to create living art.
