You’re proud of your home, and we don’t blame you. You want a space you can enjoy and embrace in Kansas City. We want that, too.
High Prairie Outdoors & Pools: A Proven System for Every Chapter of Your Outdoor Environment
Your outdoor environment should become a place where your family gathers, relaxes, celebrates, plays, and creates memories year after year. It should also grow more beautiful, functional, and enjoyable as time passes.
As the nation’s only Class-1 certified outdoor living contractor, High Prairie Outdoors & Pools designs, builds, and cares for complete outdoor environments through the Legacy Program. Thoughtful design, disciplined construction, and long-term Estate Stewardship work together, so your property is planned with purpose, built with precision, and cared for as it matures.
Trained, year-round High Prairie Pros complete 95 to 98 percent of the work in-house. This gives you consistent communication, fewer handoffs, and professionals who understand the full vision for your property. Pools, patios, gardens, masonry, lighting, irrigation, drainage, outdoor kitchens, and continued care are planned as connected parts of the same environment.
One vision, one trusted team, and continued care for the life of your property. That is The High Prairie Difference.
What Makes The High Prairie Different?
- The Legacy Program, One Vision for the Life of Your Property
The Legacy Program is the system behind every High Prairie outdoor environment. High Prairie designs with precision, builds with European-level methods, and stewards your property long-term. Materials, grading, plantings, structures, circulation, utilities, and future care are considered together, so each part supports the larger vision. You receive clearer communication, more consistent decisions, and a property that feels intentional rather than assembled through a series of disconnected projects. - Class-1 Craftsmanship, Built for Decades of Enjoyment
High Prairie is the nation’s only Class-1 certified outdoor living contractor. This distinction reflects the depth of the process, the quality of the construction, and the continued care built into the High Prairie approach. Pools, landscapes, hardscapes, gardens, lighting, irrigation, drainage, and gathering spaces are planned to work as a complete system, supporting lasting beauty, dependable function, and years of enjoyment. - Industry Thought Leaders & Educators
Inspired by the model of the world’s leading research and teaching hospitals, High Prairie operates as a research- and teaching-led organization where learning, mastery, and the pursuit of better standards are part of how we work. We scour the globe to study sophisticated, proven, and enduring methodologies, bring that knowledge home to Kansas City, and pair masters of these specialized crafts with professionals learning to become masters themselves. This culture of perpetual learning allows us to continually elevate our own standards while sharing what we learn beyond High Prairie through university education, industry events, professional development, and national teaching—helping advance not only our company, but the outdoor living industry as a whole. - High Prairie Pros Who Know Your Property
High Prairie Pros are trained, year-round professionals with knowledge across design, construction, horticulture, pools, masonry, and Estate Stewardship. Because 95 to 98 percent of the work is completed in-house, you experience fewer handoffs and stronger accountability throughout the relationship. The people caring for your property understand the original vision, the construction details, and what the environment needs as it matures. - Estate Stewardship That Helps Your Property Improve With Time
Estate Stewardship is property management for the outdoors. High Prairie cares for the living, built, and technical parts of your property, including fine gardening, pools, irrigation, lighting, seasonal color, and planned improvements. This is more than routine maintenance. It is informed care that protects the design, supports the health of the property, and keeps every space beautiful, functional, and ready to enjoy.
How Humble Beginnings and One Old Jeep Shaped a Higher Standard for Outdoor Living
High Prairie began in 2010 when Robyn Schmitz started the company with an old Jeep and a clear purpose. She wanted to serve homeowners well, create meaningful careers, and raise the standard for outdoor living in Kansas City.
Those early years revealed an important truth. Creating a beautiful landscape was only part of the responsibility. A property could look impressive on installation day, yet lose its character when design, construction, and care were handled by separate companies with different priorities.
The team built the knowledge and capabilities needed to plan complete outdoor environments, construct them with disciplined methods, and care for them through every season. Pools, patios, outdoor kitchens, gardens, masonry, lighting, irrigation, drainage, and horticultural care became parts of one larger vision.
Those lessons shaped the Legacy Program used today.
For you, that history means your property is not treated as a transaction that ends when construction is finished. It is treated as a living environment with the potential to become healthier, richer, and more enjoyable as it matures.
The same purpose that began with one old Jeep now guides a professional, year-round team serving complex residential properties throughout the Kansas City area.
High Prairie’s values guide how the team communicates, makes decisions, performs the work, and cares for your home. They are not simply internal statements. They shape the experience you receive throughout the relationship.
The acorn in the High Prairie logo represents the belief that the mightiest oaks come from humble beginnings. Each part of the High Prairie ETHOS supports the standards carried onto your property.
